Tree Shepherds’ fertilization program focuses on building up the soil. This consists of injecting microbes as well as food for the microbes into the tree’s Critical Root Zone.
In the forest, leaves and dead branches fall from the trees and then are broken down by microbes. This decaying matter is life-giving. It contains essential nutrients necessary for tree growth, disease protection, and energy production.
In the urban environment, modern construction practices remove most of the microbe-rich topsoil from residential and commercial properties. What remains is what you might call “dirt.”

Tree Shepherds’ fertilization program attempts to build a healthy soil environment to help depleted dirt become living soil again! Our unique fertilizer blends include both organic and synthetic macro-nutrients, such as seaweed (kelp), molasses, soil microbes, humic acid (humates), nitrogen, phosphorous acid, and potassium (NPK).
Fall Fertilizer Blend
Our fall fertilizer blend differs from that used in the spring. In the fall, we apply very low levels of nitrogen with higher contents of phosphorus and potassium. The fall blend is specially formulated to sustain root health and development.
